A sledgehammer is a world object in Amnesia: The Bunker capable of smashing doors and objects with unlimited use.
Summary[]
The sledgehammer is almost identical to bricks in function but excels in its capability by smashing destructible objects without ever breaking. It can primarily be found sitting on a rack in the Roman Tunnels right next to the safe room. It can be thrown into destructible objects like doors or barrels to smash them into pieces. It is encumbering when held, but does not slow down the players camera control or movement as much as a brick does. The sledgehammer breaks down wooden doors in two hits. It cannot be rotated like lighter objects.
The sledgehammer is especially useful in the stage of the game in which it becomes available, since there is an abundance of destructible wooden containers in the Roman Tunnels. Using itm the player can find many items and supplies held inside barrels and crates. This makes the sledgehammer one of the most powerful non-inventory tools in the game, since wooden objects containing extra supplies are littered throughout the bunker. Also, its more wieldy nature may make it worth bringing it back to the main bunker.
Trivia[]
- There is yet another environmental object with the same capability of the hammer except even lighter. It is one of the large chunks of debris blocking the tunnel to the crater inside the Roman Tunnels. However, it is uncomfortably large, often covering the players view, as well as being less discreet.
