The lockdown wheel is a puzzle item in Amnesia: The Bunker. It is required to progress in the game and opens up access for Henri Clement to large areas of the bunker.

Summary[]

The lockdown wheel is a metal wheel handle, for use in turning the lockdown mechanism which keeps shut impassible, metal security doors. The lockdown was implemented by the officers as a way to increase safety, but the Beast's ability to tunnel through walls and strike wherever it pleased rendered this countermeasure useless.

Upon attempting to turn the decrepit version of this item in the gear of the Emergency Lockdown mechanism, the wheel will break and become useless. The Lockdown Wheel must be retreived to serve as its replacement before Henri Clement can enter the locked-down areas: the Prison, the Soldier Quarters, the Arsenal complex (which includes successive areas such as the Roman Tunnels), and Maintenance.

The lockdown wheel is found inside the locker of J. Delisle. The combination to his locker can be found in his personal quarters within the Officer Quarters sector of the bunker, which is the only other area accessible to Henri. Finding his dog tag near his body reveals the combination.

Trivia[]

  • Using the wheel to lift the lockdown could be thought of as the end of the "tutorial" portion of the game. Besides being restricted to the central bunker area, the player should be somewhat familiar with how some of the game's mechanics work (the flashlight, using lanterns to save the game, storage, operating the generator, the lockers in mission storage, etc.) by the time they acquire the wheel.
    • On a first game, picking up and/or using the Lockdown Wheel from Delisle's locker allows the Beast to freely roam the bunker, although this is never stated in-game. Before this point of progression, the monster can only attack from inside the holes.[citation needed] Subsequent playthroughs do not feature this however.
