Königsberg (or "Koenigsberg" when anglicized) was a major Prussian port city, its first capital, and home to one of the oldest Universities in Europe.[1] During the events of the short story "House of Gerich", the historian Klaas Gottschall leaves Königsberg to investigate Altstadt and Wilhelm's ultimate fate, on behalf of the local university.

The present-day name of the city is Kaliningrad, since in 1946, after the expulsion of the Germans following the Second World War by the conquering Soviets and their subsequent rebuilding of the city.
