The Archives note

Thirty Years' War was a destructive European conflict from May 23, 1618 to May 15, 1648. It is often referred to as one of the most destructive conflicts in human history. In Amnesia: The Dark Descent, the war was briefly mentioned in the note Local Folklore found in the Archives.

History

According to folklore, the soldiers who rejected their duty during the war and got lost in the cold and dark Prussian woods, eventually died, and their corpses began to rot and become disfigured, eventually transforming them into horrific creatures known as the Gatherers. Whether this is the true origin of the creatures, or just myth, is unknown.
