This potion restores some of Daniel's sanity similar to how Laudanum restores health. It can be seen in some early gameplay footage. One Sanity Potion restores 25 sanity.
The item was never fully removed from the code and can still be implemented in custom maps, and be used in the same way it was intended to. Sanity potions were removed late in the game's development cycle due to their unpopularity with the press during a gameplay preview.[1]
In the beta gameplay footage in the Super Secret file, the Sanity Potion restored 30 sanity.
