Amnesia Wiki

Different users have access to different functions of the site. While anyone can do most things on the site, including reading and editing, administrators can access a few additional functions.

Meet the team![]

Administrator tools[]

Administrators have access to a range of tools that normal users do not. Below are listed some, but not all, of the additional abilities that administrators have access to:

Blocking[]

Administrators have the power to block and unblock user accounts, IP addresses, and IP ranges, for specific or indeterminate amounts of time; in accordance with Amnesia wiki:Rules.

Interface management[]

Administrators can manage the appearance and functionality of the wiki to the extent allowed by Fandom's Terms of Use, which includes:

Moving (renaming) pages[]

Administrators can move pages, which is done if the top heading of the page needs to be changed. Administrators can also move all associated subpages when moving a page, as well as move files.

Page deletion[]

Administrators have the ability to delete and restore (undelete) pages, and can also view deleted pages and their page history.

Page protection[]

Administrators have the power to protect (lock) and unprotect pages, to, for instance, make it so that only logged in users or other administrators can edit a given page. Administrators can also edit and move protected pages.

Rollback[]

Administrators can use the rollback tool to quickly revert vandalism or other edits not made in good faith. These "rollbacked" edits can then be hidden from Recent changes by the administrator.

Administrators can also grant and revoke rollback status to other users.

Bots and MassEdit[]

Administrators have access to the EngineerBot and the MassEdit tool, which allows them to automate tedious editing processes, as well as make changes to many pages very quickly.

Administrator types[]

Sysops[]

Sysops, also known simply as administrators, are the standard type of administrators. They have access to all the tools listed in Special:ListGroupRights#sysop.

Bureaucrats[]

Bureaucrats have access to all the same tools and abilities as regular administrators do, but also have the power to assign user groups to people. This lets them promote other users to administrators, content moderators, or other bureaucrats.

Bureaucrats can also demote administrators and content moderators, but they can't demote other bureaucrats (other than themselves, if they should so wish).

Fandom staff[]

Fandom staff have full access to all Fandom wikis. They will be shown in Special:Listusers/staff on any wiki. Please use Special:Contact to contact Fandom staff.

How do I become an administrator?[]

If you want to become an administrator on the Amnesia Wiki, a bureaucrat has to make you one. Only users who have put in significant effort into improving and maintaining the wiki will be considered for administrators.

If you feel like you've done this, but could use further tools in order to contribute better, you can post on the message wall of one of the wiki bureaucrats and mention that you're willing to consider the additional responsibility of administratorship. The admins will discuss amongst themselves, and get back to you in due time.

Usually, a user will be made into a content moderator for a period of time before being granted full status as an administrator. A content moderator has the ability to:

  • Edit and move fully protected pages
  • Edit and move protected files
  • Delete and undelete pages and files
  • Rollback
  • Protect and unprotect pages
  • Patrol pages (if the community has the recent changes patrol feature enabled)

How are administrator powers used?[]

A guide on how to use administrator functions can be found at Help:Administrators' how-to guide.

What can administrators not do?[]

Administrators should not use their administrator powers to settle editing disputes; for example, to lock a page on a version they prefer in an editing dispute that isn't vandalism. Administrator powers should be used to help keep the wiki clear of vandalism, spam, and users who make malicious edits, but not for simple disagreements between users acting in good faith. Ideally an admin shouldn't be considered "in charge". The ideal admin is just someone who is trusted to have a few extra buttons and to use them for the benefit of the community.
