A free demo version of Amnesia: The Bunker was released to Steam prior to the main release, to be downloaded from Steam. It began as Henri Clément wakes up in the sickroom and ended after Henri uses the Lockdown Wheel. It is no longer available post-launch of the full game, after being removed on June 13th, 2023, by Frictional Games.[1][2]

The game started with Henri Clement waking up in the Sickroom, and he progresses through the bunker, obtaining the gun and after using it or a brick to destroy the lock leading into the rest of the bunker, eventually obtains the Lockdown Wheel, which, after using, ended the demo.
The Beast never pursued the player in this demo, even after obtaining the Lockdown Wheel. However, he would still move from hole to hole if the player made noise and could kill Henri if he approached a hole while the Beast waited inside.
One noteworthy change was that Reynard's room in the demo was actually filled with gas, making it impossible to enter due to the player not having a gas mask.

- The demo download was removed from steam due to "not being representative of the full game" as well as "issues [they] didn't have time or resources to support."[1]
